Born 1979

Bernd was born and raised in Lower Austria where he began climbing and skiing in the Alps from an early age with his parents. Beginning in his teens, he has established numerous new routes in Austria - both alpine and on rock, ice and mixed terrain. He has since climbed a number of big walls in Yosemite and Red Rocks and has been on expeditions to Peru, Argentina, Russia, and Pakistan (where in 1998, at age 19, he summitted Gasherbrum II, 8035 meters) and in 2000 was part of a 4-person team that attempted to climb Makalu in Nepal.
Bernd is an internationally certified UIAGM (IFMGA) guide. He has lead many successful trips and ascents in the Alps, the Sierra Nevada of California, in Russia, in Mexico, and in South America.
